Do I have to be a mom?
No. Abigail Adams Academy was founded in an attempt to have a place to discuss learning. The creators were moms and when we came up with the name 'Classic Moms' and 'Scholar Moms' it was a perfect fit for what our goal was. We have had other classes that do not have the name moms in them and sometimes even class that were not for moms. :)
Can I join more than one discussion group?
If you feel that you need to be in more than one discussion group you can. Each group is meant to be a transformational experience. Some find that it is best to pick one group and invest themselves deeply, getting great returns on their efforts.
Which discussion group should I take?
Classic Moms follows the idea of "you AND them". The books chosen here are considered read-aloud books. These books can lead to great family discussions and have foundational principles and ideas about the world we live in and human nature.
Scholar Moms digs into deeper and includes more complex books and ideas. These books might challenge our thinking and leadership skills as we discuss and try to understand human nature better.
Both groups have rigor, practice skills, and have time commitments. Consider where you are in your abilities and most importantly how much time you can commit. Since we are studying classics, you'll still get a lot out of a less rigorous group, even if you've already read some of the books. Sometimes you get more out of the second reading of a classic (or third or fourth.)
We recommend that you err on the side of choosing a less rigorous group. Your experience will be better choosing an easier groups then finding out that you bit off more than you can chew. If you find the group too easy in the first couple of sessions, you can transfer to another group.
